Ahead of the 2026–2027 school year, UNICEF Armenia and the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) ran a structured professional-development programme for digital-literacy and computer-science teachers across Kotayk province, in coordination with Armenia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and with financial support from the European Union.
Between March and June 2026, 252 teachers from 91 schools — 90% of all schools in the province — completed training in algorithmic thinking, project-based learning and artificial-intelligence literacy, differentiated by grade level: primary-school teachers (grade 2 and up) trained in Scratch, while middle- and high-school teachers trained in Python.
FAST's leadership has described the programme as a deliberately data-driven pilot intended to surface gaps and build a model that could be scaled nationally. The public record so far documents training completion and reach, not independent measurement of classroom AI-teaching competency or downstream student outcomes — a gap any national scale-up should address.
