Women in IT - Software Testing

Kobiety w IT (Women in IT) aimed to train unemployed women and men in ICT to improve their opportunities in the job market. The programme generally aims to teach ICT skills to women who find themselves in a difficult economic situation.
The project was initially directed only at women, because from the employers' perspective there are still too few of them in the IT sector; but in later editions, men were also included in the training. Preconditions of joining the programme are the unemployed status registered with the Job Centre of Gdańsk, an interest in new technologies, knowledge of English at B2 level and commitment to study and work, as well as high motivation.
Kobiety w IT uses an approach consisting of training sessions (120 hours) plus internships (480 hours). The training sessions include:
- software testing;
- Agile in practice with elements of communication in the Scrum team;
- automatic testing in practice;
- effective understanding of labour market; and
- business processes.
All participants participated in an internship. After the internship, participants will have the chance to receive a job offer in the companies where they did their apprenticeship, depending on their performance at work.

Context: The programme was created by the Poviat Labor Office in Gdańsk "Women in IT - software testers" whereby the ECD Foundation implemented a series of training sessions and practices for project participants. In total, six editions of the software testing training sessions were run between 2014 and 2017.
