What works in Namibia

Namibia has achieved notable progress in gender representation in parliament through SWAPO's 50/50 electoral quota, with women's National Assembly seats rising from 21% in 2010 to 49% after the 2024 election, placing the country sixth globally and first in Africa after Rwanda. The country is expanding youth digital skills through UNESCO-CODEMAO's Africa-Asia Youth Coding Initiative Phase II, which trained over 3,000 young people and 350 teachers in Phase I (2021–2024) and launched Phase II in August 2025 with 200 tablets across 8 pilot schools to integrate coding and AI into the national ICT curriculum by 2029. Namibia's Community-Based Natural Resource Management programme demonstrates significant conservation outcomes, with 86 communal conservancies covering 16.6 million hectares supporting over 230,000 rural members and achieving major wildlife recoveries—elephant populations rose from approximately 50 to over 500 and mountain zebra from 500 to 14,000 since 1993.
