Philippines' DepEd launched AGAP.AI in January 2026: a national AI-ethics framework plus an ASEAN Foundation/Google.org-funded track aiming to train 300,000 teachers, 1.05 million learners and 150,000 parents in AI literacy and misinformation risks.
The Philippines' Department of Education (DepEd) launched Project AGAP.AI (Accelerating Governance and Adaptive Pedagogy through Artificial Intelligence) on 9 January 2026 at Quezon City Science High School, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. attending the launch; DepEd describes it as the country's first nationwide programme for responsible AI integration in basic education.
The programme has two tracks: the Foundational Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence in Basic Education, the Philippines' first national framework for the ethical and responsible use of AI in schools, and 'AI Ready ASEAN Philippines', a training rollout funded by the ASEAN Foundation and delivered with Google.org that targets 1.05 million learners, 300,000 teachers and 150,000 parents during 2026.
Training content covers AI explained in plain language, practical classroom applications, data privacy and ethics, and how to recognise and address AI-related misinformation risks.
As of its early-2026 launch, DepEd had published rollout targets and the framework's scope rather than independently verified completion or learning-outcome data; a separate DepEd–Microsoft literacy initiative (ARAL, using Reading Progress) is a distinct programme already documented elsewhere in this catalogue and should not be conflated with AGAP.AI's teacher-training track.
