A six-month Akademi-Universite Quisqueya bootcamp trained 100 young Haitians in data science, AI, cybersecurity and software engineering; 71 graduated in November 2025, building AI tools for local problems including breast-cancer detection and food-insecurity forecasting.
Haiti's fragile economy and weak formal tech sector leave few pathways into applied AI work, even as local organisations face concrete problems — from overstretched healthcare diagnostics to recurring food-insecurity crises — that data-driven tools could help address.
Akademi, a private Haitian tech-training provider, partnered with Universite Quisqueya, a leading private university in Port-au-Prince, to run a selective, six-month in-person bootcamp for 100 young Haitians split into three specialist tracks: Data Science & AI, cybersecurity, and software engineering.
On 9 November 2025, 71 of the 100 participants received certificates (39 in Data Science & AI, 23 in cybersecurity, 9 in software engineering). Graduating teams built applied AI projects addressing Haitian challenges: Rolddy Surpris and Nael Yssa Iben Ahmed Robert developed a breast-cancer detection model trained on mammography data; Richecard Blade Dameus and Berodly Thelus built a predictive model for national food-insecurity risk using economic, climatic and environmental indicators; other teams built a personal-finance app ("Finans Pam") and a public-sector project-management tool ("Datakle").
Universite Quisqueya has since published an official syllabus for a further "Data Science & AI Bootcamp — Powered by Flatiron School" cohort (dated May 2026), indicating the programme continues beyond its first documented cohort. No independent, rigorous impact evaluation (job placement, measured learning gains) has been published, coverage relies on journalistic and institutional self-reporting, and no explicit equity targeting (gender balance, rural access) was described in available sources.
