Context

Chile's Superintendencia del Medio Ambiente launched its Environmental Intelligence Strategy in October 2021, combining real-time sensors, automated compliance reporting and satellite image analysis (Sentinel-1/2, Landsat-8/9) to monitor protected wetlands, lakes and aquaculture centres.

Results

SMA targeted roughly 1,000 regulated installations for real-time monitoring, publishing results via the public SNIFA registry, and has shared the approach with Peru's OEFA; however no independently audited figures on detection accuracy or fines attributable to the AI/satellite components were found.
