Clarion Housing is the UK's largest housing association, owning and managing 125,000 homes for around 350,000 people. Its charitable foundation, Clarion Futures, runs an ambitious £150m social-purpose programme, within which Clarion Futures Money and Digital tackles digital exclusion among residents and the wider public.
The programme aims to help residents get online and build digital skills and confidence, so they can access savings, job opportunities and other online services.
Delivery includes free drop-in classes, workshops and accredited courses (including bite-sized online sessions via Microsoft Teams or Zoom during Covid-19), covering internet safety, parental controls, general computer/internet skills, online job searching and digital CVs. A digital device loan scheme lends laptops, tablets and mobile wifi units to course participants, alongside device set-up support, affordable-device partnerships with suppliers, and trained volunteer 'digital champions' who give one-to-one support with tasks like online shopping and application forms.
In 2019-20 the programme delivered 4,621 digital skills training hours.
