PT17EduScratch is a Portuguese project run by the ICT Competence Center of the School of Education, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, disseminating and supporting the pedagogical use of the Scratch programming language for teachers and students, including young people at risk, in partnership with the Comissão de Proteção de Jovens em Risco (Young Children Protection Committee).
To build teachers' and students' digital competences and technological fluency using the Scratch programming language, responding to the growing gap between technological evolution and citizens' technological fluency.
An open community portal shares class plans, sample projects, and tutorials. Teacher training is offered as 3-hour workshops, 15-hour basic courses, and 30-hour courses in which trainees implement classroom sessions. Programming Clubs were created in schools with the Young Children Protection Committee.
The project reports that 60% of students increased their digital competences; the programme cost is stated as €25,000, reaching 3,691 of a targeted 25,000 people.
