In January 2025 the Basque Government published a public catalogue of algorithms and AI systems used by its administration, covering purpose, data and oversight status for 13 initial systems in health, education, employment and housing.
In January 2025, as part of its December 2023 Data Governance Strategy, the Basque Government (Euskadi) launched the Catálogo de algoritmos y sistemas de IA, a public register of automated and AI systems used across its own public administration, following the precedent set by earlier registers in the Netherlands and in Amsterdam and Helsinki.
Each catalogue entry documents the system's purpose, the datasets used for training and processing, whether human supervision is required, the responsible public body and the technology used; the Basque Government has also opened a channel for civil-society suggestions and contributions on listed systems.
The initial release covers 13 AI systems spanning citizen services, employment, health, education and housing. Officials have been explicit that the catalogue does not yet cover every algorithm in use and is expected to expand as a forthcoming AI strategy and data-governance plan are rolled out — so it should be read as an early-stage, growing disclosure exercise rather than a complete inventory.
