Amsterdam-based EdTech (2014) enabling AI-guided peer and self-assessment at 150+ universities; Automated Feedback Coach prompts richer peer reviews in real time; KU Leuven and Aalto adopted it in 2024; University of Oslo study (n=528) won Best Paper at Udit 2024.
FeedbackFruits BV was founded in Amsterdam in 2014 to improve the quality and consistency of formative feedback in higher education, providing structured peer assessment, self-assessment, team evaluation and group-member assessment tools that integrate natively with Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and Moodle.
The platform's core AI feature, the Automated Feedback Coach, analyses a student's draft peer review in real time and prompts them to add specificity, examples and actionable suggestions before submission — making AI support visible and pedagogically intentional rather than opaque. As of 2024 the company reports adoption at over 150 universities internationally.
KU Leuven (Belgium) began institution-wide adoption in September 2024, and Aalto University (Finland) has also deployed the platform; the 2024 Impact Report drew on data from 25 universities globally. Institutions retain full control over rubrics and assessment criteria and can configure the level of AI prompting to match their pedagogical approach.
An independent controlled study at the University of Oslo examined peer-review quality among 528 students in large-enrolment courses and won the Best Paper Award at Udit 2024 (Norway's educational technology conference).
The platform is GDPR-compliant, headquartered in the Netherlands with data processed within the EU; the Oslo study provides independent evidence of peer-review quality gains, though broader peer-reviewed learning-outcome metrics for students are not yet widely published.
