Context

The GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) Ireland 2021 report, produced by Enterprise Ireland, examines the state of entrepreneurship in Ireland across several themes including gender. It documents differences between women's and men's entrepreneurial attitudes, perceived opportunities, confidence and educational pathways into starting a business.

Results

The report finds that more women than men are inhibited from starting a business by fear of failure, more men than women perceive opportunities to start a business in Ireland, more men than women feel confident in their skills and knowledge to start a business, and female early-stage entrepreneurs have on average remained longer in the educational system than their male counterparts.
