Context
Children from disadvantaged households and migrant backgrounds are less likely to be competent or motivated readers than their classmates, hindering their development. 'The Living Book – Augmenting Reading for Life' (2016-2019, Erasmus+ KA201) targeted 9-15-year-old students, led by European University Cyprus / ICTEE with school teachers, university ICT specialists and inclusive-education experts.
Objectives
Motivate under-achieving and unmotivated 9-15-year-old students to read more by making reading a more enjoyable, digitally augmented experience, engaging students at school and at home through parents.
Activities
Developed customised reading paths combining digital creativity with physical books; authored 'The Living Book Guidelines' e-publication for teachers; built the OER 'Living Library Platform' (thelivinglibrary.eu) and toolkits offering ready-to-use tools to augment reading with rich media content.
