Description

Kazakhstan's Digital Nomad Residency, launched in January 2025 at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is a national visa track aimed at attracting skilled remote IT and AI professionals. It runs alongside a separate, lighter-touch 'Neo Nomad Visa' for freelancers and creatives. Applications are processed digitally through the Astana Hub International Innovation Cluster platform, with no minimum income or savings requirement; successful applicants receive a residence permit valid for up to ten years.
By September 2025, Kazakh officials and independent business media reported more than 270 applications from roughly 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Turkey and CIS states, with most applicants working in programming, cybersecurity, UI/UX design and DevOps. Astana Hub's year-end 2025 ecosystem report put the cumulative total at around 500 applications from 21 countries, with more than 60 applicants granted permanent residency permits. The programme sits within a wider Astana Hub ecosystem that separately reports over 1,500 registered companies (including 400+ with foreign participation) and roughly 28,000 jobs.
Because the residency track only launched in 2025, there is not yet independent evidence on retention, tax contribution or economic output specifically attributable to nomad-visa holders — the available data covers application and approval volumes rather than downstream outcomes, and mixes figures reported directly by Astana Hub with independent local business-press corroboration.
