Liberia Girls Can Code Initiative — Ministry of Education and UN Women's Pilot AI, Cybersecurity and Digital-Entrepreneurship Camp

Liberia's Ministry of Education, in partnership with UN Women Liberia, launched a call for applications in mid-2026 for the Liberia Girls Can Code Initiative Pilot Coding Camp, a digital-skills programme aimed squarely at closing the country's gender gap in technology education. The pilot targets 250 girls and young women aged 15–24 from five counties — Lofa, Bong, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Maryland — running for approximately six to eight months and anchored by a 10-day immersive coding bootcamp.

The curriculum goes beyond basic coding to cover artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital entrepreneurship, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving, with an explicit strand on the responsible use of AI tools, online safety and digital privacy. No prior programming experience is required, positioning the initiative as an entry point rather than an advanced track.

As of the application deadline (25 August 2026), the programme had not yet run its cohort, so no participation, completion or learning-outcome data exists yet — this is a government-and-UN-backed commitment with a concrete design and county-level targeting, not yet a demonstrated result. It is included here as an evidenced, honestly-labelled early-stage practice worth revisiting once the pilot concludes.
