Founded in Brno in 2014 as informal 'Rails Girls' meetups, Czechitas has run 1,800+ courses for 76,000+ participants and added dedicated AI courses for women developers; 50% of requalification graduates move into tech jobs within six months.
CZ064Czechitas began in 2014 in Brno, Czech Republic, when IT student Dita Formánková and a handful of friends organised informal weekend 'Rails Girls' programming workshops for women wanting to try coding. It has since grown into what is described as the largest IT community in the Czech Republic.
Close the gender gap in Czech IT and, more recently, AI skills, by giving women and girls a pathway from first exposure to coding through to job-ready reskilling.
Czechitas has run more than 1,800 training courses for over 76,000 participants, spanning programming, data analytics, cybersecurity and digital productivity. As generative AI tools became mainstream, it added dedicated 'AI for developers' and 'AI for web developers' courses teaching prompt engineering and AI-assisted coding to women with existing programming experience, alongside broader 'AI for everyone' tracks and children's and youth courses reaching over 5,000 children.
Czechitas reports that 50% of career-requalification course graduates move into tech roles within six months of completing training, that 65% of graduates see salary increases, and that the organisation now cooperates with over 100 corporate and public partners. An independent academic study, 'Women Want to Learn Tech: Lessons from the Czechitas Education Project' (arXiv, 2019), examined participant motivations and course design.
These outcome figures are organisation-wide, covering all Czechitas courses rather than isolating the newer AI-specific tracks, and no independent longitudinal evaluation of the AI courses alone was found. The evidence should be read as documenting a mature, credible decade-long training pipeline into which AI content has recently been integrated, not as a dedicated AI-impact study.
