mAigov — Greece's AI Digital Assistant on the gov.gr Public-Services Portal

In December 2023, Greece's Ministry of Digital Governance launched mAigov, a natural-language AI assistant embedded in gov.gr, the country's single digital portal for public administration. The system was unveiled at the Maximos Mansion in a presentation to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and has been described as the first chatbot deployed in the Greek public sector. It accepts written or spoken queries and directs users, including those unfamiliar with the platform, to the right service among gov.gr's more than 1,600 digitised services and roughly 3,270 administrative procedures.

mAigov was designed to help citizens navigate gov.gr's extensive and complex service catalogue by understanding natural-language requests rather than requiring users to know which specific service or procedure to search for. A further aim was to do so without compromising privacy: the assistant was built to operate anonymously, without requesting or storing personal data, redirecting any sensitive queries to official channels instead.

The assistant supports 25 languages — the European Union's official languages plus Albanian — and, according to the OECD.AI policy-initiative dashboard, can handle up to 240 Greek-language conversations per minute during peak load. It remains in public beta, and users can rate each interaction, with that feedback intended to help refine the underlying model over time.

More than 1.6 million interactions have been logged with mAigov since its December 2023 launch, according to the OECD.AI dashboard. The system continues to operate without collecting personal data, and independent measurement of whether it actually shortens citizens' time-to-service, as opposed to simply fielding a larger volume of queries, has not yet been published.
