Colombia's Ministry of ICT opened its Data Sandbox to national public bodies in 2021: 34 projects applied, six scoring at least 70% were selected for technical support. No outcome evaluation was found.
The Data Sandbox is a collaborative cloud space run by Colombia's Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MinTIC) in which national public entities can run pilot analytics and big-data projects with technical accompaniment. It is listed in the Datasphere Initiative's 2025 global overview of data and AI sandboxes as operating since 2021.
In March 2021 MinTIC opened the call 'Big Data al servicio de las entidades públicas' for up to eight pilots. On 12 April 2021 it reported that 34 projects from national public entities had registered and six were selected, each having scored at least 70% across the evaluation criteria on the evidence in its application. The selected pilots were: AGROSAVIA (unsupervised classification of agricultural soils from satellite imagery), Fondo Nacional del Ahorro (the PARCE conversational analytics portal), the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (Guardián, monitoring prices of regulated medicines), DANE (a proxy for SDG indicator 10.3.1/16.b.1 from unconventional data), ICETEX (sentiment analysis) and ICBF (natural-language processing of complaints to prioritise field checks).
Support consisted of technical accompaniment, access to the Data Sandbox platform, scoping meetings, reference architectures and final presentations. The platform runs on a public-cloud segment.
Caveat: the sources found are the 2021 call and selection announcements. No consolidated results, impact evaluation or current status of the six pilots was located, so the practice is evidenced as a structured, competitive access scheme rather than as proven public value.
