MRANTI's National Technology & Innovation Sandbox (NTIS)

MRANTI (Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation) is Malaysia's national tech-commercialisation agency, formed in 2021-22 by merging Technology Park Malaysia (TPM, est. 1995) with the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC, est. 2014) under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and headquartered at the 686-acre MRANTI Park in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
Its flagship applied-evidence programme is the National Technology & Innovation Sandbox (NTIS), launched in 2020, which lets researchers and companies trial and commercialise emerging technologies — agritech, robotics, AI, smart cities, biotech — across 15 national sandbox sites under relaxed regulatory conditions. According to the Malaysian government's own reporting, as of January 2025 NTIS had received 868 applications, approved 124 projects, moved 70 technologies to commercialisation, disbursed RM120.4 million in funding and generated RM145.8 million in resulting sales.
These figures should be read with two caveats documented independently: a research-administration analysis (CASRAI) notes MRANTI's commercialisation statistics are programme-reported rather than third-party audited, and later official communications cite different, only partially reconcilable cumulative totals for the same programme. Malaysian business press also reported the departure of MRANTI's founding CEO roughly 18 months after the 2021-22 merger, a signal of integration friction between the agency's older infrastructure-leasing and newer accelerator cultures.
