RAISE — Jamaica's AI-Reskilling Pilot for Mathematics Teachers

RAISE (Reskilling Teachers Using Artificial Intelligence in STEM Education to Raise Students' Maths Identity) launched on March 19, 2025 at Jamaica's Ministry of Education in Kingston, led by Education Minister Dana Morris Dixon and American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) Executive Director Caron Chung.
The pilot reaches teachers at 10 primary and 10 secondary schools across Jamaica, funded by a US$100,000 budget from AFJ donors Peter and Lisa Walker, channelled through AFJ's National STEM Center programme.
It trains teachers to use AI-driven tools and strategies for lesson planning and differentiated mathematics instruction, targeting students' confidence and self-perception as capable maths learners — their 'maths identity' — alongside academic performance.
The initiative's existence and framing — an AI pilot assisting teachers with STEM instruction, launched by Minister Morris Dixon — is independently confirmed in Jamaican press coverage separate from the government's own release, though no outcome results have been published yet; this is an early-stage pilot, not yet an evaluated one.
