(Re)equipment of the DPSs

Brussels Digital Public Spaces (DPS/EPN) offer citizens free access to the internet and support projects to build ICT mastery. According to a King Baudouin Foundation report cited in the practice record, four in ten Belgians are at risk of digital exclusion: almost one in three low-income households has no internet connection, 40% of the Belgian population has low digital skills, and this rises to 75% among people with low income and low educational attainment. As a major IT actor in the Brussels Region, BRIC treats this digital divide as a priority and responds partly by donating equipment to DPSs.

Equip all DPSs awarded the Brussels-Capital Region (BCR) label with the material resources needed for their day-to-day activities, so they can guide citizens through digital appropriation and reach as many people as possible.

BRIC, together with CABAN and the DPSs themselves, supplies computers, software, printers, projectors and other equipment needed for the DPSs' daily training and access activities.

DPSs give Brussels residents affected by the digital divide a route out through guidance, education and open access to PCs, tablets and internet connections; the practice record notes that for DPSs to reach a maximum number of people they need ongoing financial and material resources to do their work.
