Context

Rwanda's Gender Equality Seal, launched by the Gender Monitoring Office with the Private Sector Federation and support from UNDP, UN Women and USAID, has companies self-assess against gender-equality criteria.

Activities

In 2023 the Rwanda Standards Board formalised the approach as National Standard RS 560:2023, described as Africa's first national gender-equality certification standard.

Results

At a May 2024 Kigali ceremony, 19 companies and institutions received recognition - 7 gold seals, 2 silver, 3 bronze and 7 recognised for adopting GES processes.
