Saro — Digital Nation's AI Assistant for Personalised Feedback and Dropout Prevention in Romanian Schools

Digital Nation, a Romanian non-profit, launched Saro in April 2025 in partnership with Romania's Ministry of Education: an AI assistant that gives pupils, students and teachers personalised feedback, motivational analysis and help planning learning tasks, aiming to reduce dropout and improve engagement. The initial pilot involved around 1,200 participants and roughly $150,000 in investment; Google.org subsequently awarded a $700,000 grant to expand Saro into further schools and universities.
Public reporting on Saro to date describes its design, funders and pilot scale but does not include measured effects on dropout rates, academic performance or equity of access, so its evidence base remains preliminary despite the scale of the follow-on funding committed.
