Germany's ESF-funded 'Stark im Beruf' programme ran up to 115 local sites nationwide (2015-2022), coaching mothers with a migration background into work. A government impact analysis found over 18,000 mothers supported and nearly a third moving into employment or training.
DE30Mothers with a migration background in Germany are employed at persistently lower rates than their qualifications would predict. The ESF-co-funded federal programme 'Stark im Beruf' (2015-2022), run by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs (BMFSFJ), operated up to 115 local projects combining everyday-oriented language support, individual coaching and direct links to local job centres and employment agencies.
By mid-2022 more than 18,000 mothers had received individual support of up to one year, more than 13,000 completed the programme, and nearly one third moved into socially-insured employment, training or a recognised qualification, according to the ministry's own impact analysis (no counterfactual group; roughly two-thirds had no documented employment transition by programme end). The approach was carried into the 2021-2027 ESF Plus programme 'MY TURN'.
