Description

VETAssIst (Artificial Intelligence as VET Teacher Assistant, Erasmus+ KA220-VET, project 2024-1-HU01-KA220-VET-000253387) is a multi-country project (Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Austria) on integrating AI into vocational education and training.
The Slovak team at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava first ran a national online survey of 208 VET teachers across disciplines, complemented by 38 in-depth interviews. The findings reveal significant gaps in AI literacy, digital skills and technical or institutional readiness.
The team then assessed 37 AI applications (including ChatGPT, Canva, Copilot, Padlet and Miro) for pedagogical potential and for challenges such as data privacy and infrastructure limits, and delivered tailored training sessions to 78 VET teachers covering lesson planning, assessment and classroom management. A modular training programme was developed, with piloting scheduled for autumn 2025.
Evidence caveat: published results are descriptive. Reported outcomes are improved teacher capacity to integrate AI tools; no controlled comparison or quantified learning gains for students are reported, and the sample of 78 trained teachers is small relative to the Slovak VET workforce. The authors stress the need for systemic support and sustained professional development.
