What works in Nepal

Nepal has implemented substantial gender representation reforms and development programmes across multiple sectors. Nepal's Constitutional 40% Gender Quota in Local Government achieved 40.96% female representation (14,352 women of 35,041 representatives) in its 2017 local elections, though only 2% of mayors and rural municipality chiefs were women. Digital education initiatives like OLE Nepal's E-Paath and E-Pustakalaya reach over 40,000 students across 180 schools in 16 districts, while the Chhaupadi abolition programme reduced menstrual exile hut-sleeping from 19.4% to 5.5% across nearly 46,000 women and girls in Kailali and Doti districts. However, the practices in this context address only specific programmes and districts—they do not represent comprehensive national outcomes.
