Singapore's new Institute of Digital Government ran pilot 'AI Sprints' — agency workshops applying AI to real work — reaching 1,000+ officers since May 2026, with a 330-person HR cohort reporting over 80% post-training confidence, en route to a 150,000-officer target by 2028.

Description
Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) and the Civil Service College (CSC) jointly established the Institute of Digital Government (IDG) in September 2026 to build structured, agency-level AI and data capability across the public service, building on earlier ad hoc generative-AI sandboxes and workshops. The IDG's flagship "AI Sprints" are agency-level workshops giving officers dedicated time to frame real workplace problems, rapidly prototype solutions with enterprise AI tools, and test them against day-to-day tasks; a companion "Champions of AI Transformation" community connects non-technical officers driving AI-enabled workflow redesign across agencies. Piloted since May 2026, the AI Sprints had reached more than 1,000 officers by the IDG's September 2026 launch; in one cohort of over 330 human-resources leaders, more than 80% reported feeling more confident using AI after the workshop. The government's public target is for over 150,000 officers — most of the public service — to use technology effectively in daily work by 2028. The published figures so far measure participation and self-reported confidence, not verified changes in service quality, cost or error rates, and the IDG itself frames the programme as a pilot still being scaled; independent evaluation of downstream productivity impact has not yet been published.
