Context
ALFIN SENIOR (Senior InfoLit) is an initiative of EDE Foundation's Knowledge Center in Bilbao, Spain, addressing the digital divide affecting elderly people, who typically have lower ICT knowledge than other population segments despite ICTs' central role in society.
Objectives
To help elderly people acquire the knowledge and skills needed to access and use information via ICT, reducing the digital divide within elderly groups, promoting their inclusion in the information/knowledge society, and supporting active ageing.
Activities
A competence-based methodology and training programme were developed, referencing international information-literacy guidelines (IFLA, ACRL, SCONUL), delivered in partnership with the BBK retirees club-Social project and Kzgunea centres, and going beyond basic digital literacy to include ethical/legal information use, teamwork, and information evaluation and storage.
Conclusions
The programme applied an information-literacy methodology tailored to older people's needs for the first time in this social-intervention context, developed by professionals from a Documentation Centre; the programme has since ended.
