Belarus National Curriculum Reform — Artificial Intelligence Integrated into Grades 6–9 Informatics

By Resolution No. 32 of 22 July 2026, Belarus's Ministry of Education approved an updated informatics programme for grades 6 through 9 that, for the first time, formally integrates artificial intelligence into the compulsory curriculum starting 1 September 2026. The programme totals 139 academic hours — one lesson per week in each of the four grades — organised around six content lines spanning algorithmisation, programming, computer modelling and information-technology use.

The AI-specific content is graded by age: eighth-graders learn to compose queries to AI systems and verify the accuracy of the information returned, while ninth-graders move on to AI-assisted modelling and critical analysis of AI-generated results. The stated aim is functional digital literacy — applying computing and AI skills to problems in mathematics, physics, biology and geography — rather than specialist computer-science training, and the reform sits within the government's five-year 'Intellectual Belarus' programme for 2026–2030.

Because the curriculum only takes effect in September 2026, no learning-outcome data exists yet, and reporting to date describes the mandate's content and scope rather than its classroom implementation. No teacher-training component was reported alongside the curriculum change, and Belarus's restricted media environment limits independent scrutiny of how the AI-ethics content (verifying AI outputs) will be taught in practice.
