STMicroelectronics Foundation, ITU and a blind Milan professor run train-the-trainer digital-literacy classes for blind and visually-impaired adults in Dakar. An advanced module now covers practical AI use; 700+ trained since 2022, replicated in Pakistan and India.
ICB4VI ('Introduction to Computer Basics for Visually Impaired People') began in Dakar's Biscuiterie district in 2022 as a train-the-trainer digital-literacy curriculum for blind and visually-impaired adults, run by the STMicroelectronics Foundation with the ITU. Its advanced tier, co-taught by blind University of Milan professor Cristian Bernareggi, now includes a module on practical AI use.
By mid-2026 the programme reported over 700 beneficiaries and 20 locally trained trainers in Senegal, including a documented cohort of 200 participants (41% women) trained between August and December 2024. The model has been replicated in Pakistan and, from December 2024, in a 17-participant pilot in India.
