InfoPark Budapest

InfoPark Budapest was established in December 1996 in Budapest's District XI, on the bank of the Danube, as a joint public investment by Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Economy and Transport, developed with private partner IVG Immobilien/Infopark Rt. It is described as the first innovation and technology park in Central and Eastern Europe.

The park combines academic anchor tenants — BME's main campus buildings and ELTE's Faculty of Informatics — with commercial office space let to technology, telecoms and research-intensive companies, giving firms direct proximity to university research groups and graduates.

By 2009 the park had grown to more than 100,000 m² of leasable office space and around 7,000 employees, and it has continued expanding since, including a 22,000 m² Siemens industrial-software complex opened in 2020 and continued leasing activity through 2024. Long-standing tenants have included T-Systems, HP, IBM, Lufthansa Systems, Magyar Telekom and NTT Data, alongside the Hungarian Research Network's Research Centre for Natural Sciences.

InfoPark shows how pairing two universities with national government backing and a private real-estate developer can sustain a technology district for nearly three decades. The main evidence gap is that current (2020s) tenant and employee totals are not published; the most recent verifiable headcount figure found here (about 7,000 employees) dates to 2009, and no source reviewed documents how many resident firms actually originated from BME/ELTE research versus simply renting office space nearby.
