Namibia's Digital Nomad Visa (DNV)

Namibia's Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration and Security and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) launched the country's Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) on 11 October 2022, permitting remote workers earning at least USD 2,000/month to live in Namibia for up to six months. At launch, Namibia became one of only five African nations (alongside Cape Verde, Rwanda, Mauritius and Seychelles) with such a scheme, per Harvard Business School research cited in coverage.
NIPDB reported the first two DNV approvals on 14 February 2023. By the time of its May 2023 update, the programme had received over 121 enquiries but only 20 formal applications, of which 9 were approved and the remainder rejected — mostly for failing the income threshold or applying while already in Namibia on a different visa status. VisaGuide.News independently corroborated the 9-approvals figure. Interest came mainly from Germany, South Africa and the United States, generating over 1,100 social/media mentions globally.
NIPDB has stated it will run targeted marketing campaigns and publish clearer FAQs to raise the conversion rate from enquiry to approved application — an implicit admission that awareness, not demand, was the binding constraint in the programme's first year.
