PT16Nós e (A)vós is an intergenerational digital-inclusion initiative in Avelar, Portugal, launched in response to a Social Diagnosis showing many isolated, low-income elderly residents — often further isolated by family emigration — alongside rising school dropout and behavioural problems among local young people. It was designed by Sicó Formação SA (which runs the Technological and Professional School of Sicó) as an Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Initiative, supported by the Avelar Parish Council and the company Leca Portugal SA as a social investor.
The initiative aims to reduce isolation and loneliness among elderly people through intergenerational digital-literacy activities, combining social and community intervention.
Digital literacy sessions for people aged 65+ are delivered by students and supervised by volunteers and/or teachers, introducing seniors to computer tools for staying in touch with family and using the internet for everyday purposes. Activities include 'Internet for Everyone', a street-photography exercise, a 'Portrait of Generations' activity, help completing official forms such as tax (IRS) declarations, home internet setup, mobile-phone familiarisation, intergenerational 'Generations' sessions, and cognitive-stimulation games.
