FSG's 'Roma in Digital' programme delivers free, practical 8-hour digital-skills courses to Roma adults across Spain, funded by EU NextGenerationEU recovery funds; over 3,800 of a planned 12,000 training sessions had been delivered by June 2025.
Roma in Digital ('Gitanos y Gitanas en Digital') is a national training programme run by Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) as part of Spain's Generation D digital-citizenship initiative, coordinated by Red.es and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration. Launched in February 2025, it is funded through Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan under the EU's NextGenerationEU funds.
The programme offers free, in-person 8-hour courses built on the EU's DigComp 2.2 digital-competence framework, covering everyday digital tasks such as dealing with public administration online, job searching, launching a small digital business, internet safety and digital wellbeing. Courses run in numerous cities across Spain — including FSG's Vigo centre, which launched its own cohort in 2025 — and are open to any adult over 18.
By June 2025, FSG reported that more than 3,800 of a targeted 12,000 training sessions had been delivered, with classrooms described as consistently full. The programme's stated ambition is to reach the full 12,000-session target by the end of 2026, making it one of the largest publicly funded digital-inclusion efforts aimed specifically at the Roma community in the EU. No independent outcome evaluation (e.g., pre/post digital-skills testing) has yet been published, so its impact on participants' competencies is not yet independently verified.
