What works in Romania

Romania has implemented several digital-inclusion and skills-training programmes reaching thousands of citizens. Digital Skills Academy reached over 1,110 children across 47 schools by its fifth edition, with a dedicated strand serving 250+ Roma and refugee students across 8 schools, while Digitaliada equipped 40 rural schools across 26 counties and reached 4,500 pupils, with 94% of parents reporting improved understanding of subjects. Romania has also deployed PREVENT, an AI system that has screened over 100,000 public-procurement procedures worth EUR 15.5 billion and blocked EUR 108 million in suspect contracts, reducing undisclosed conflicts by 52% in 2.5 years. Digital literacy training for seniors and intergenerational programmes have also been piloted, though these show qualitative outcomes rather than quantified participant numbers.
