Evidence snapshot for Slovenia
Slovenia has implemented comprehensive gender equality initiatives across multiple sectors. A 2009 study on equal opportunities in its diplomatic service identified five overlapping factors—power, culture, awareness, family and harassment—where women diplomats reported unequal positions relative to men. At the institutional level, the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts adopted a Gender Equality Plan in early 2019 covering mentoring, work-life balance, researcher excellence, awareness-raising and gender neutrality. Internationally, Slovenia has been a long-standing advocate for mainstreaming gender equality into UN structures and actively promoted the setting up of UN Women, while the Ljubljana Declaration prepared under the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in 2021 sets six priorities for gender equality in the European Research Area.
