What works in Senegal

Senegal's Law on Absolute Gender Parity in Elective Bodies 2010 mandated alternating male-female candidates on electoral lists, raising women's share of the National Assembly from 22.7% to 42.7% in 2012 and sustaining local representation at 44–47% through 2022. PAJEF — Digital Literacy Project for Girls & Women enrolled 3,998 girls and women in face-to-face literacy classes and 2,300 in online strands across seven regions, with 96% passing primary-school-equivalent exams or progressing further. The Jokko Initiative taught SMS literacy to ~800 women in 25 villages, increasing those able to write text messages from 8% to 62% in four months. These programmes demonstrate Senegal's efforts in gender representation and digital literacy, though the evidence does not quantify national-level literacy impacts or broader economic outcomes.
