A Inteligencia Artificial vai transformar a Escola? — Portugal's National Teacher MOOC and Certificate on AI in Education

The Direcção-Geral da Educação (DGE), Portugal's Ministry of Education directorate, created "A Inteligência Artificial vai transformar a Escola?", a free Portuguese-language MOOC on the national NAU platform open to teachers of every recruitment group, school leaders and education professionals. Learners who score at least 75% receive a digital completion certificate. The course ran a first edition in late 2020, drawing about 1,900 registrations, and had reached 5,363 cumulative enrolments across four editions by late 2024; the European Commission's Better Internet for Kids portal separately covered the initiative as a model for national AI-in-education teacher training.
The certificate is explicitly not accredited by Portugal's CCPFC, the body that governs mandatory continuing teacher-education credit, so completion carries no formal professional-development credit value — a real limit on how much it certifies. No published data separates completions from registrations, and MOOC drop-off is typically substantial, so the enrolment figures should not be read as completion figures.
