Context

AI Ready ASEAN is a regional AI-literacy programme run by the ASEAN Foundation with a USD 5 million Google.org grant and technical support from AI Singapore, launched in 2024 for a 2.5-year term across all ten ASEAN member states.

Objectives

The programme aims to build practical AI literacy among youth, educators, parents and underserved communities across the region.

Activities

Roughly 2,000 volunteer Master Trainers are certified to each deliver a 12-hour AI Fundamentals course to at least 120 learners within ten months, a cascade model supported by national partners such as the Philippines' Break the Fake Movement.

Results

The design targets hundreds of thousands of direct learners and a stated goal of millions of ASEAN citizens gaining AI awareness, with the Philippine Department of Education citing the programme in regional AI-education discussions.

Conclusions

Reach figures come mainly from the Foundation's own reporting, with no independent assessment yet of how much competency trainers or learners retain, and sustainability beyond the grant term is untested.
