The EU AI Act classifies AI for admissions, grading, steering learning and exam monitoring as 'high-risk' — mandating risk management, human oversight and representative data — and bans emotion-inference on students.
The EU AI Act classifies AI systems used in education for admissions, evaluating learning outcomes, determining the level of education a person can access, and monitoring students during exams as 'high-risk'. This triggers obligations including quality-management and risk-assessment systems, human oversight, and use of representative, non-discriminatory data. Systems that infer students' emotions from facial, vocal or biometric cues are banned outright as 'unacceptable risk'.
