Description
M.I.A. Seconde (Modules Interactifs Adaptatifs) is a free digital remediation service for seconde classes (general, technological and vocational lycées) in French and mathematics. It was built by the Paris start-up EvidenceB and offers more than 20,000 exercises whose pathways adapt in real time to each student's successes and difficulties. After a first deployment phase in 2024-25, the Ministry made access available to all seconde students and teachers for the 2025-26 school year. A randomised impact evaluation of effects on student learning and teacher practices was run in 2024-25 by the ministry's digital directorate (DNE), the IDEE programme and the Economics Department of Sciences Po; the IDEE page lists it as ongoing and publishes no sample size or effect sizes. Evidence of learning impact is therefore still pending. The SNES-FSU teachers' union criticises the scheme: it reports the launch slipped from September 2024 to September 2025, that the experimental phase covered about 8 academies and 150 schools with EUR 4 million raised, that the app was not technically fully satisfactory, and that personalised pathways risk atomising the class group and reducing teaching to exercise selection.
