Context

The Munich Employment and Qualification Program (MBQ) is a municipal labour-market programme, in operation since at least 1998, supporting around 110 projects that provide education, training, advice and employment for unemployed, disabled, migrant and youth residents of Munich.

Activities

Social enterprises provide new employment, on-the-job retraining and apprenticeship placements under realistic working conditions across sectors such as skilled crafts, recycling, catering and administration, financed by €29 million annually from the City of Munich's Departments of Labour/Economic Development and Social Services.

Results

In 2019 the programme supported around 6,700 people; 2018 figures show it reached approximately 5,300 long-term unemployed, 3,900 migrants, 3,400 women, 1,100 single parents and 3,700 people with no vocational qualifications, plus around 5,000 young people annually through its Special Youth Program (JuSoPro).
